Catherine Zeta-Jones reveals that her secret beauty weapon is argan oil
One of Hollywood’s most
classic beauties has let the members of Mumsnet – and the rest of us – in on her beauty secrets.
In a webchat to mark the release of the Dad’s Army movie, Catherine Zeta-Jones answered questions on her career, the issue of diversity in Hollywood, and - obviously, most importantly - her tricks for looking so good all the time.
Zeta-Jones, 46, told webchatters she had recently started using argan oil to combat the effects of central heating on her skin. “I’m finding, just from travelling from New York and being in heated hotel rooms, my skin feels like a Walker’s crisp at the moment,” she said. “I’ve been using some argan oil just to saturate my skin at night, so it has some nourishment as I sleep, to start the day a little bit more hydrated.”
The already immensely popular oil saw its sales boosted in 2014 when Kim Kardashian revealed that she too was a fan of Morocco’s most successful beauty export. At the time, a Moroccan government spokesman told press that the country was in the process of regenerating the argan forest, with the aim of taking production of argan oil from 4,000 tonnes a day to 10,000.

Zeta-Jones also spoke about the
role of older actresses in Hollywood, telling webchatters that, in her
experience, it was absolutely an issue. “I have been in this business
since I was nine years old, and have heard the same thing throughout
different parts of my career,” she said. “Then, hello, I’m in my
40s... and it’s true. It’s not that there aren’t great stories to be
told about women in their 40s, it’s just that the big bosses in
Hollywood feel that the demographic of moviegoers are less interested.”
Asked about the current controversy sweeping Hollywood ahead of the Oscars, Zeta-Jones said: “I still find it sad that we’re even discussing this at this time. But in the defence of the Academy Oscar voters, they can only vote on what they see. Let's go back to the writers, to the filmmakers and more importantly [to] the studios who finance movies, to get them to have projects where at least diversity has a chance."
In further beauty news, Zeta-Jones was also asked which foundation she favours, revealing she has toyed with the idea of starting her own beauty line. “I mix [my foundations],” she said. “Right now I’m mixing Giorgio Armani with a Tom Ford. Should I make my own as I’m so good at mixing? I’ve thought about it! I do the same with lipsticks.”
